TIEBREAKER

Should a tie occur between two or more teams, division standings will be decided according to the following prioritized guidelines:

Consideration of the game(s) played between the tied teams.
Consideration of the points scored and the points allowed in games between the tied teams (i.e. ratio For/Against).
Consideration of games played versus the highest placed team, not in the tie, followed by the next highest placed team, etc.
Consideration of points scored and allowed versus the highest placed team not in the tie, followed by the next highest team, etc.

Note: The tie-breaking procedure for multiple ties shall be adjusted so that once the highest-ranked team is removed from the tie the head-to-head records of the remaining teams be utilized to break all remaining ties.

PLAYOFF FORMAT

Five (5) teams from each division will qualify for the basketball playoffs leading up to a Final Four Championship. Final league standing will be used to determine the ranking of the teams for the playoff series and Championship. The playoff series and Championship will occur over two weeks with the Final Four Championship in the last weekend.

Divisional Playoff

The top five (5) teams in the north and south divisions shall advance to the Divisional Playoffs with the two remaining divisional winners advancing to the Final Four Basketball Championship. Two sets of playoff series will be played in each division on the first weekend of playoffs. The match-ups will feature the lower-ranked team hosted by the higher-ranked team as determined by the regular season standings as follows:

Divisional Playoffs shall be scheduled on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. Exact dates are to be determined by the competing teams. Whenever possible, the play-off games should be played on Friday and Saturday unless travel distance is a concern, and it is mutually agreeable between participating teams. Sunday or Thursday are options, but Friday & Saturday are preferred competition dates.

CHAMPIONSHIP

The four winning teams from the divisional playoffs will advance to the Final Four Basketball Championship tournament. The Final Four Championship tournament will be held the weekend after the Divisional Playoffs.

The Championship Tournament host shall be determined by the highest-ranked team (determined by the standings) in the geographical division pre-designated to host. In even years (e.g. 2023-24), the highest remaining North Division team will host the men’s event while the highest remaining South Division team will host the women’s event. Subsequently, in odd years (e.g. 2024-25), the highest remaining South team will host the men’s and the highest remaining North team will host the women’s championship.

The highest ranked (from the standings) remaining team in each division will be ranked #1 (N1 & S1). The next highest ranked will be ranked #2 (N2 & S2).

In games between tied teams the team with the most points from regular season head to head games shall be the tie-breaker.
Regulation wins take precedence over OT wins.
In games between the tied teams in a regular season series, the team
with more wins gets the higher placing, as regulation wins take
precedence over OT wins in deciding placements.
Goals for minus goals against for each of the tied teams. The team with
best differential earns the higher placing.
Consideration of games played versus the highest placed team not in the tie, followed by the next highest placed team, etc. Regulation wins

PLAYOFF FORMAT

The 1^st and 2^nd place teams earn byes in the first round (quarter-finals). The winners from the quarter-finals will move on to play against the 1^st and 2^nd place team. The lowest seed will play against #1 ranked while the second lowest seed will meet the #2 ranked team. All series are best of 3 games. If the competing teams are within 400 km, it will be a home & home series with the highest seed hosting games 1 & 3. If the competing teams are more than 400 km, the highest seed will host all games in the best of 3 series.

TIE BREAKER

Should a tie occur between two or more teams, division standings will be decided according to the following prioritized guidelines:

The following formula is used to determine final standings if two or more teams are tied.

Results of matches between the tied teams.
Goal difference in games between the tied teams.
1. Goal Difference: By deducting goals against from goals for, the team with the better (higher) goal difference shall be awarded the higher standing.
Goal difference in all ACAC regular league games.
Most goals scored in regular league play.
Fewest goals conceded in regular season play.

PLAYOFF FORMAT

Top three teams in each division qualify for playoffs. For the 2023-24 season, CUE, NAIT & TKU will host the soccer championships. The hosts will not automatically secure a playoff spot.

ACAC Soccer Championship

The first team in each division will receive a bye for the quarter-final games. North #2 will play South #3 in one quarter-final match and South #2 will play North #3 in the other quarter-final. The winners of these matches shall advance to the Conference semi-finals. The winner of Game #1 (N2 vs. S3) will play South #1 and the winner of Game #2 (S2 vs. N3) will play North #1 for the semi-final games.

TIE BREAKER

If two or more teams are tied, the following criteria will be applied, in order:

The team having the best ratio of won/lost matches, considering matches between the tied teams, will be ranked higher;
The team having the best ratio of won/lost sets, considering matches played be- tween the tied teams, will be ranked higher;
The team having the best ratio of won/lost sets, considering all matches of the round, will be ranked higher;
The teamhavingthebestratioofpoints for/against, consideringsets played between the tied teams, will be ranked higher;
The team having the best ratio of points for/against, considering all sets played during the round, will be ranked higher;
As determined by the Organizing Committee (e.g. extra set, toss of coin, etc.)

When you apply this rule to break a tie you should follow this sequence:

When two teams are tied, the tie-breaking criteria are applied one after the other until the tie has been broken.
When three or more teams are tied, the tie-breaking criteria are applied one after the other until all the tied teams have been ranked.

Note: This means that if there is a tie among teams X, Y and Z and criteria “b” is able to determine X as first, Y as second and Z as third, then no further criteria are to be used. The tie is broken.

However, if criteria ‘b’ determines the seeding/ranking of any of the tied teams, then the remaining teams which are still tied will use criteria ‘c’ and so on to determine their seeding/ranking. Do not start at ‘a’ again. Continue through the sequence of criteria using the results of teams x, y, and z for criteria‘d’.

CHAMPIONSHIP

All Championship games will be played at the Championship host facility. The Elite 8 tournament format will be an 8 team, Oregon draw. Bracket 1 (Games 1 & 2) and bracket 2 (Games 3 & 4) may be swapped pending the placement of the host team in the standings. The host has the choice to play Game #3 or Game #4 on day 1.
