RDP Kings Edge CUE in ACAC Championship Game Two

(EDMONTON, AB) In a highly anticipated showdown at Clareview Rec Center, the stage was set for the ACAC Men's Hockey Championship finals game two between the Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE) Thunder and the defending champions, the RDP Kings. After impressive victories over the NAIT Ooks and the Briercrest Clippers in the earlier rounds, CUE Thunder were determined to even the series after RDP secured a win in game 1, leading the series 1-0. With a packed arena buzzing with anticipation, both teams took to the ice with a fierce determination to claim victory.

RDP took an early lead in the first period, courtesy of a goal from Jacob Wozney, assisted by Erik Miller. Despite relentless pressure from CUE, RDP maintained their 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

The second period saw both teams exchanging goals. RDP extended their lead with a goal from #74 Holden Knights, assisted by #12 Nolan Doell and #20 Ryland McNinch. However, CUE quickly responded with a power play goal from #23 Zachary Cunningham, assisted by #27 Tyler Schendel and #12 Isaac Leik, narrowing the gap to 2-1.

As the tension mounted in the third period, neither team managed to find the back of the net. Both RDP and CUE displayed strong defensive efforts, but RDP's goaltender, Arik Weersink, stood tall, preserving the narrow lead.

As the final buzzer sounded, the scoreboard read 2-1 in favor of the RDP Kings. Despite the disappointment of the loss, the Thunder demonstrated resilience and determination until the very end. With their backs against the wall, CUE Thunder now head into game 3 next Friday facing a must-win scenario. However, the Thunder are poised to continue their fight to push the series forward.
