Briercrest Clippers Take Bronze in tight Overtime Finish

In a thrilling bronze medal game in the 2024 ACAC women's basketball championships, the Clippers overtook the St. Mary's Lighting in Overtime.

Both teams came out strong and hungry for the Bronze medal win.

The first quarter set the tone for a closely contested matchup, with Briercrest gaining a slight edge to end the period with a 19-17 lead. The Clippers continued to maintain their momentum in the second quarter, showcasing their offensive skill to extend their lead to four points heading into halftime, with the scoreboard reading 36-32 in favor of Briercrest.

The Lightning, however, refused to back down and mounted a spirited comeback in the third quarter. Displaying resilience and determination, St. Mary's surged ahead with a stellar offensive display, outscoring Briercrest 20-17 in the quarter to take a narrow one-point lead entering the final frame, with the scoreline standing at 52-51.

With the bronze medal hanging in the balance, both teams left it all on the court in a fiercely contested fourth quarter. The Clippers showcased their composure and resolve under pressure, matching St. Mary's basket for basket to force the game into overtime, with the score deadlocked at 74-74 at the end of regulation.

In the extra period, Briercrest dug deep and demonstrated their championship pedigree, executing crucial plays on both ends of the floor to outscore St. Mary's 13-7 and secure a hard-fought 80-74 victory. With this impressive triumph, the Clippers clinched the bronze medal in the ACAC Women's Basketball Championships, capping off their season on a high note.

Multiple Players from Briercrest had great games in this bronze medal match. Multiple players were in double digit scoring, #7 Brooklyn Martens, #9 Dori Sunderland and #14 Hope Jordans, all had 10 points. #23 Asia Wells Had a great game with an impressive 20 points and #8 Amber Fichtner had the double double.

For St. Mary's #11 Andria Sitt contributed an impressive double double and was an offensive play maker with 6 assists and 3 steals. #2 Shanah Estangel also had a great game with 12 points and 8 rebounds.

Tournament all stars were name for each team. Briercrest was #23 Asia Wells and for St. Mary's Lightning was #11 Andria Sitt.
