Men's Basketball Huskies top Ooks to advance to ACAC's Final Four

Fort McMurray, Alta. (February 25, 2024) - NAIT Ooks 69 Keyano Huskies 81

The Keyano Huskies Men's Basketball team faced a stiff challenge from the NAIT Ooks, but prevailed by an 81-69 final to secure their spot in the Final Four of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference Sunday at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta. 

Omeechi Williams scored a season-high 29 points, led by six of his team's nine three-point shots, to lead his home side to victory. Nahshon Hurst added 18 while Keenan Miller and Evan Meyer each finished with eight. 

Collectively, the Huskies shot 50% (31-for-62) from the field, they also made 42.9% (9-for-21) of the three-point shots and went 10-for-12 (83.3%) from the free throw line. After bursting out to a 24-8 lead after one quarter, the Huskies saw the visiting Ooks battle back with a 23-15 quarter in favour of the visitors to close the game to an eight-point Huskies lead at the half. 

The Ooks started the third quarter hot and got their lead up to as much as five before the Huskies battled back to lead by one with one quarter to go. In that final frame, the Huskies took charge to the tune of a 24-13 score to win by 12. 

Led by 18 points from Nhiall Kuech, the Ooks had four players in doubl digits on the day. Owen Weaver had 17, Yasser Abdullahi posted 15 and Stian Gleddie finished with 11. 

The Ooks as a team shot 47.6% (30-for-63) from the field, making 27.8% (5-for-18) three-point shots. four of their eight free throw attempts were successful in the match.
