It was a rare test, but the Rustlers passed and remain undefeated.
Lakeland women's basketball hosted the Keyano Huskies in the North Division 1/4 matchup, with the winner heading to the ACAC Final Four next weekend. The Huskies finished with only eight wins this year, but had been playing well recently and won on the road in Camrose the night before.
In the first quarter, things went as they normally do for the top team in the country, as they quickly built a 22-13 lead and extending it to 14 points by half. However, the Huskies refused to quit, battling back in the third to trail by 7. In the fourth, the Rustlers had to work for each posseion, but were able to win 71-54.
Veda Gottselig had a big game off the bench with 15 points and 9 rebounds. Missy Nuku added 19 points and 7 assists.
With the win, Lakeland will head to Calgary for the ACAC Final Four. They will face the Briercrest Clippers, who upset the South's top seed Lethbridge, Friday evening at 6:00 PM
