NAIT Claw Back Victory and Take the Series to Three

Tonight's matchup saw the visiting Red Deer Queens take on the NAIT Ooks in Game 2 of their first-round playoff matchup. After taking game 1 last night, the Queens were looking to finish the Ooks off, while NAIT was trying to keep their season alive and force a Game 3. The Queens were able to continue their attack from last night by controlling the puck for the majority of the 1st period, preventing the Ooks from getting the chance to swing the momentum in their favour. Finally, the Queens were able to net one after the relentless attack in the opening period. The Queens goal was scored by #9 Julie Wagner with the assist coming from #8 Jailyn Bablitz. The Ooks were able to quickly answer with a powerplay goal. Ooks' goal was scored by #13 Hanna Paquette with assists by #16 Michaella Kibblewhite and #20 Abigail Robar.

The score after the 1st period was 1-1.

The 2nd period saw both teams come out very aggressive trying to gain the lead. Both teams had multiple scoring chances, but neither team was able to get one past the keepers. Both teams were able to kill multiple penalties throughout the period. The best scoring opportunity came at the end of the period when the Ooks got a 5-on-3 powerplay. The Ooks were finally able to get past the keeper to take their first lead of the game. The Ooks goal was scored by #20 Abigail Robar with the assist by #8 Tayler Premak.

The Ooks lead 2-1 after the 2nd period.

The 3rd period saw the Queens dominate the puck control as they were trying to score that tying goal. Ooks goalie #29 Kaitlyn Slator was able to turn away the flurry of shots by the Queens throughout the first half of the period. After pulling the goalie, the Queens were trying desperately to tie the game up in the closing minutes. The Ooks were able to stand the man advantage and hold on to tie the series up.

The Ooks won 2-1. Game 3 will be tomorrow at 7 pm in Red Deer.
