Rustlers Remain Undefeated in Tight Match

In game two of the ACAC Women's basketball Championships, the undefeated Lakeland College Rustlers took on the Briercrest Clippers in a battle for a spot in the championship game. Despite a valiant effort from the Clippers, the Rustlers maintained their perfect record with a close 54-49 victory, securing their place in the championship showdown.

The game opened with the Lakeland College Rustlers asserting themselves early on. Starting with a 13-2 lead over the clippers. The Clippers fans still gave their team energy and the Clippers were fighting hard. Lakelands offence was quick and the team was able to find their open players for the easy baskets, to give them momentum in the first quarter and finished, 14-6 for the Rustlers.

However, the second quarter saw a momentum shift as the Briercrest Clippers found their footing on both ends of the court. With a renewed energy and determination, they outscored the Rustlers 17-13 in the quarter, narrowing the deficit to just three points heading into halftime, with the score standing at 27-23 in favor of the Rustlers. Clippers fans were getting loud in the gym.

As the second half began, the Clippers continued to apply pressure, maintaining their defensive intensity and executing effectively on offense. The Clippers took their firs tlead of the game nearing the end of the 3rd quarter with 2 made free throws from Asia Wells putting them ahead by one point against the Rustlers. The clippers added 13 points to their tally in the third quarter, while the Rustlers struggled to find their scoring touch, managing only 4 points in the frame.

In the fourth and final quarter, both teams left it all on the court in a frenetic battle for supremacy. The Rustlers, determined to preserve their unbeaten streak, unleashed a relentless offensive onslaught, pouring in 23 points in the quarter. #9 Alana Olson had some big blocks in the fourth quarter and a big three to bring them back the lead. #11 Haley Somers came alive in the second half, showing grit and determination to bring the Rustlers back into the lead.

In the end, it was the Lakeland College Rustlers who emerged victorious with a hard-earned 54-49 win over the Briercrest Clippers, securing their spot in the championship game the following evening.
