The Trojans takes the 1st one at home

Calgary, AB - In a game held on March 1st, 2024, the SAIT Trojans defeated the UAA Vikings with a final score of 5-4. The game took place at WinSport, Arena B, and started at 7:00 PM.

Reece Richmond scored with under a second left to help the Trojans beat the UAA Vikings by a final score of 5-4 on Friday night. Taking a 1-0 series lead in the best of three, SAIT jumped to an early 3-1 lead before UAA tied it 4-4 at the start of the third.

Kayden Smith and Brett Trentham each scored a goal of their own, and Tye Carriere potted two for the Trojans.

Andrew MacLean stopped 41 of 45 shots for SAIT, while Daniel Moody made 33 saves on 38 shots for the Vikings.

SAIT finished the regular season with a record of 11-13, giving them the fifth seed, while UAA finished as the fourth seed at 14-10. The Vikings won the season series 3-1, winning three straight against the Trojans won their first meeting 5-4.

The Trojans pounced early, scoring three goals in the first seven minutes. A big save from Vikings goaltender Daniel Moody right after SAIT's third goal helped stop the bleeding.

UAA added two of their own in the first, and at intermission, the Trojans led by one.

Tye Carriere scored his second of the game halfway through the second frame, but Tavis Roch got the Vikings back within one before the third.

Just two minutes into the final frame, Chase Leslie ripped one from the top of the circle to tie the game. UAA kept the pressure on, outshooting the Trojans by seven in the period, but Reece Richmond scored on a beautiful last-second shot from the point to give the Trojans the win.

The two teams will face off again tomorrow, giving SAIT a chance to move on with a win. With their season on the line, the Vikings will need a victory to force a third and final game of the series.

SAIT Trojans: Brett Trentham with one goal and one assist.

In terms of penalties, UAA accumulated 6 minutes on three infractions, while SAIT received 22 minutes on seven infractions.

UAA recorded 45 shots, and SAIT recorded 38 shots.
