Arik Weersink, Red Deer Kings, Men's Hockey

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Goaltender Arik Weersink played an integral role in the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings Hockey team winning both playoff games against the Concordia University Thunder. On Friday, Lethbridge’s Weersink backstopped the RDP Kings to a 6-3 victory at home. The fifth-year netminder made 25 saves, helping the Kings pick up a win in game one of the best-of-five Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Men’s Hockey Championship final.

In Edmonton, Weersink was outstanding in the RDP Kings’ 2-1 victory, turning aside 31-of-32 shots. With the win, the Kings have a two games to none lead over the Thunder. Weersink, who is a Kinesiology and Sport Studies Fitness and Health Promotion student, was named the Kings Player of the Game.

The Red Deer Polytechnic Kings will host the Concordia University Thunder at the Gary W. Harris Canada Games Centre in game three of the series on Friday, March 22 at 7 pm.
