The Ambrose Lions took on the Olds College Broncos in a frigid Friday evening matchup looking to bounce back from last weeks loss at home.
Without Ambrose's usual captain - defender Nathan Yeung - in the lineup the Bronco's were able to pour on the pressure early, generating multiple shots on net in the opening minutes. With the pressure on, it wouldn't take long for a bounce to finally go their way as freshman forward Dimitri Bouzy scored off a cross from #12 Colton Berner in the 13th minute to take the early lead. Defensive woes continued to plague the Lions early as shortly after they would take a penalty in the box, giving Broncos' captain Valentin Kirchner a penalty shot which he capitalized on. Olds continued their relentless attack on offense, but the Lions held strong and closed out the opening frame in an 0-2 deficit.
Bronco's forward Garren Oosterhuis started off the second half right where they left off by slipping free for a breakaway but put his shot wide in the 49th minute. From there, however, the game would start to get testy when – unhappy with a no-call – Broncos' #5 Pedro Noschang picked up the first yellow card of the evening by voicing his displeasure with a tackle on Lions freshman Daniel Kwan. The Bronco's momentum continued nonetheless as they received goals from #10 Diego Forno and #19 Dilan Vargas in the 56th and 58th minutes respectively.
Not long after, Kwan was on the receiving end of another tackle was issued a yellow card, this time to #15 Emmanuel Mukolo. Lions' midfielder Nic Lyons and Broncos' Zayne Boughazale also received yellows in the closing minutes of the game. Amidst that chaos, #20 Dimitri Bouzy was able to secure his player of the game honours by netting his second goal of the game in the 79th minute. On the other side, fellow #20 Thuok Yat Cheek received the award for the Lions.
The Ambrose Lions will look to bounce back in less than 24 hours in an afternoon match against the SAIT Trojans, whom the Broncos' will look to continue their momentum against as they will also match up on Sunday afternoon.
