Women's Volleyball TKU Eagles v. RDP Queens

On November 22, the King's University Eagles Women's Volleyball team took on Red Deer Polytechnic Queens at The King's University gymnasium at 6:00 pm. 

 

In the first set,  The opening set was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams playing excellent defense and showing solid communication. The Eagles gained the upper hand with standout performances from Lauryn Draker, who made a crucial save, and Brooke Risselada, who contributed two powerful kills. Sydney Seida also had a key moment with an ace that helped seal the set for the Eagles. On the Queens' side, Francesca Sandini delivered a great kill, while Rachel Perry's blocking was impressive, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Eagles' early momentum. The Eagles won the set 25-22.

 

In the second set, Queens bounced back in the second set with a dominant performance. Rachel Perry was a standout with excellent serves, an ace, and a kill. Nadia McKeag also contributed with a powerful kill, while Autumn Roos made a huge impact with two kills and a massive block. The Eagles struggled to find their rhythm, although Leah Aukema's tip point and Brooke Risselada's ace and kill were bright spots. Queens won the set 25-10.

 

In the third set, The third set saw the Eagles regroup and claw their way back into the match with a much tighter contest. Brooke Risselada was a force at the net, recording four kills, while Sydney Seida's defense and cross-court kill added to the Eagles' strong offensive push. Risselada also had an ace that helped them edge past Queens in a nail-biting finish. For Queens, Maria Brouwer made her presence felt with a block and a kill, while Rachel Perry's ace and Marin Walton's kill kept the set competitive. Ultimately, the Eagles held on for a narrow 25-23 win. 

In the fourth set, Queens came out strong, with Nadia McKeag contributing a kill and an ace, while Lauren Junck added two crucial kills. Maria Brouwer was unstoppable, notching three kills, and Autumn Roos was a defensive force with a key block. The Eagles fought hard, with Emma Laybourne registering a kill and Lauryn Draker making an excellent save before delivering a kill of her own. However, Queens' offensive power proved too much as they took the set 25-21, forcing a decisive fifth set

 

The fifth and final set was a true test of endurance and focus, with both teams executing well-timed plays. The Eagles' Brooke Risselada came through with another kill, while Ashley Lockwood and Lauryn Draker also delivered key kills to keep things close. However, Rachel Perry's ace and Nadia McKeag's powerful kills helped Queens pull away in the final moments. Maria Brouwer also contributed a kill to ensure the Queens had the edge when it mattered most, and they ultimately won the set 25-22, sealing the match.
