Clippers Sweep Lions in Friday Night Matchup

Briercrest's women's volleyball team played host to the Ambrose Lion's in a Friday night matchup in Caronport.  

Briercrest got out to an early 7-4 lead in the 1st set, the opening points saw lots of good back and forth action. The Clippers pushed ahead to a 13-8 lead after this, prompting a timeout from the Lions. Out of the break, they kept their foot on the gas, extending their lead to 7, up 17-10 now. Ambrose would battle back and narrow that margin to a score of 18-15. Briercrest responded with strong play, putting them ahead 23-18, leading to a second timeout in the set by Ambrose. The Clippers would go on to win the first set 25-20.   

Briercrest started the second set strong, getting up 7-2 early. Ambrose cut the lead down to 2 will some nice plays on their end. The Clippers hitting found its rhythm which saw Briercrest go up 13-6 leading to an Ambrose Timeout. The timeout seemed to regain momentum for Ambrose, who cut the deficit to just 3 points, now down 16-13. The Briercrest stayed strong however, and pushed their lead back up to 21-14, resulting in another Ambrose timeout. The Clippers took the second set by a score of 25-17. 

Both teams went back and forth to open the third set, seeing 5-5 and 8-8 ties. Both teams had exciting to watch rallies with combinations of blocking and hitting that got the fans engaged. The Clippers began to slip away after, going up 15-10, leading to an Ambrose timeout. Out of break, Briercrest didn't let up, extending their lead to 19-11 and going on to take the third and final set by a score of 25-15. 

The ACAC Player of the game awards were presented following the conclusion of the match; they went to #13 Elise Wagner of Ambrose, who recorded: 10 Digs, 5 Kills and 2 Assists. 

For Briercrest, the award was presented to #16 Kelsey Weibe, whose stat line was: 4 Digs, 7 Kills, 1 Assist. 

The Clippers are back in action tomorrow afternoon at 2pm, as they take on the Red Deer Polytechnic Kings.
