Huskies Sweep the Wolves

Set 1

Keyano Huskies 25 Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves 16 (1-0)

Service ace by Harlee Cameron (2nd year, Business Admin, Bonnyville, Alberta) gave Huskies their first lead of the set 6-5.

Down 10-6, Wolves coach Chantelle LaMotte decided to shake things up by subbing in not one but two players.

With one of those subs, Tori Macooh (1st year, University Transfer Science, Spirit River, Alberta) at the service line, Wolves creep back 9-11.

A block by Faith Grant (1st year, College Prep, Warren, Ohio) silences the oppositions run.

Back-to-back net violations allow Wolves back into the contest down 12-14.

With Megan Koch (4th year, Education, Grande Prairie) at the service line and back-to-back kills by Wolves' teammate Macooh, the set is tied 15-15.

Haley Field's (2nd year, University Studies, Calgary, Alberta) strong service – two aces out of four – give the Huskies a 19-15 lead with LaMotte calling timeout.

Field connects on four more service aces and the Huskies run ends at 24-16 with Wolves' Leah Friesen (3rd year, Licensed Practical Nurse, Beaverlodge, Alberta) striking a big time kill.

Unheralded libero Raisa Stokes (1st year, Education, Fort McMurray, Alberta) despite her diminutive size, came out big with a few saves in the opening set for the home side.

Set 2

Keyano Huskies 25 Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves 13 (2-0)

A BANGO by Grant gives the Huskies a 9-5 advantage and Wolves timeout.

Alexa Ellis (5th year, Art & Design, Nanaimo, British Columbia) goes on a serving spree, supported by a big time kill by Field and double-block by Field and Grant with Wolves taking a timeout down 14-5.

Huskies' six-point run ends on a spike by high-flyer Koch, Wolves down 6-15.

A Field kill off the block stops a Wolves run to make it 18-11.

A few nice rallies near the end of set delights the Saturday afternoon crowd in attendance at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre's Canadian National Resources Ltd. Gymnasium.

Set 3

Keyano Huskies 28 Grande Prairie Regional College Wolves 26 (3-0)

With confidence evident, the Huskies jumped out to a 9-2 score before the whistle blows for a Wolves timeout.

Wolves regrouped to have a run of their own, outscoring the Huskies 8-3 before a Grant kill silences the comeback.

Wolves continue to fight back with the Huskies coach Nic Davies taking their first time out of the match, leading 16-14...having been outscored 12-7.

Wolves tie it up 16-16 on a Leah Friesen kill and Koch service ace.

The rest of the game is back-and-forth with excellent play by both sides going into extra points.
