Running Room Grand Prix #3 - Event Recap

Lethbridge, AB (March 3, 2025) – The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks proudly hosted the third Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) Running Room Grand Prix event at the University of Lethbridge. This marked the first time since 2016 that the Kodiaks indoor track team had the opportunity to host an event, welcoming athletes from seven ACAC schools for an action-packed day of competition.

 

Women's events

The women's division featured strong performances, with multiple ACAC records broken throughout the day. The 60m sprint set the tone for the event, as the top three finishers all broke ACAC records. SAIT's Amy Fallows claimed gold with a record-breaking 7.85 seconds, followed closely by RDP's Eiley Morrison (7.99) and SAIT's Isabel Vega (8.04).

In the 600m race, SAIT's Kerigan Frampton secured first place with an impressive time of 1:38.57, while Cadence Laplante from Saint Mary's University Lightning followed at 1:44.35. The 1500m race came down to a thrilling finish, with Lethbridge Polytechnic's Hannah Pilling edging out Medicine Hat's Madison Scrimger to take the win in 5:13.91.

The 300m sprint showcased SAIT's continued dominance, with Amy Fallows setting yet another ACAC record at 41.45 seconds, while her teammate Isabel Vega finished second with a time of 44.03. Lethbridge Polytechnic delivered an outstanding performance in the relays, sweeping both the 4x200m and 4x400m events.

 

Men's events

The men's division was equally thrilling, with standout performances and record-setting moments. SAIT's David Adesegun got the competition off to a fiery start, breaking the ACAC record in the 60m dash with a time of 6.99 seconds.

The 600m event saw a dominant 1-2 finish for the Kodiaks, as Jonah Hennig took second place behind teammate Owen Stewart, who clocked an impressive first-place finish. Stewart kept his winning momentum going in the 1500m event, securing another first-place finish with a time of 4:11.25.

The 300m sprint was another strong showing for the Kodiaks, with Jonah Hennig finishing second (37.71 seconds) and first-year runner Tyler Wiebe clinching victory in 37.21 seconds. The Kodiaks also dominated the relay events, winning both the 4x200m and 4x400m races. They set a new ACAC Championship record in the 4x200m relay, crossing the finish line in 1:34.23.

In addition to the men's events, the competition featured two wheelchair races in the 60m and 300m, where Hunter Graves proudly represented the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks.

The next event where all teams will compete is the ACAC Indoor Track Championships, taking place in two weeks on March 15-16 at the Universiade Pavilion (Butterdome) in Edmonton.
