Clippers Win in Three During Home-Opener

This weekend brought the Briercrest Clippers and SAIT Trojans together for a two-game series at the Clippers home gym.

The Briercrest Clippers ending up winning the first of the two games in a 3-0 sweep but the Trojans kept them on their toes scoring the first point of the set off of Briercrest's serve. For every point that the Clippers scored the Trojans were able to match. It led to a tight ending with a final score 25-23 for the Clippers.

Fresh off the first set victory the Clippers opened up the second set with a 3-point streak before the Trojans took back possession and matched them. Both teams played with both tight defense and a strong offensive that had the coaches calling multiple time outs to talk strategy. In the end the Clippers came out on top, just barely outscoring the Trojans with a final score of 28-26.

The third and final set opened up with a 9-point tie that was broken with a two-point string the Clippers. The Trojans did not give up taking back control racking up 14 before the Clippers called time out.

The Trojans made the Clippers fight for every point they got. Leading to a nail-biting back and forth finale. The Clippers finished the match off with 27 points close on their heels with 25.

Player of the Game was awarded to SAIT's #17 Filip Florek, with 7 digs, 7 points and 2 blocks, and Clipper's Captain Jeremy Martens, with 4 digs, 4 aces and 43 assists.

Clipper Player of the Game said on the win: "It's a great feeling, we haven't played in the Hanger for a game in like 2 years. So, for the first game to be a 3-0 sweep against one of our rival teams is a great feeling."

The Clippers face off against the Trojans again tomorrow.
