Evan Veldman Honoured as 2017-18 ACAC Men’s North Volleyball Rookie of the Year
Medicine Hat, AB (February 21, 2018) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Evan Veldman of The King's University Eagles has been selected as the 2017-18 ACAC Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Year sponsored by Volleyball Alberta.
Evan Veldman lead the Eagles team in both total kills (293), and kills per set (3.18). Evan cracked the top five in total kills in the league, the only first-year athlete in the top five. Respectively tied for 24th in the league in digs, Veldman has provided his team with defensive strength and sharp serve receive abilities.
"Evan is blessed with a tremendous amount of athletic talent," said Phil Dixon, HC TKU Eagles MVB team "He has continued to work hard on his craft this year, and the personal accolades have come his way both from our team and now his peers, with his selection as the ACAC Rookie of the Year award. But from what I have learned about this humble young man this past season is that he would gladly trade all the praise for a shot at going to the Gold Medal on Saturday. He has stepped up into a leadership role this year by the way he handles himself both on and off the court."
Evan Veldman came to King's from Terrace, British Columbia, where he played for the Centennial Christian Seahawks while also playing for team B.C. The Bachelor of Arts major was ranked seventh in the province's "Super 15" Senior Boys Volleyball Rankings, as voted by USport coaches across B.C.
This prestigious award was presented to Evan Veldman at the 2017-18 ACAC Men's Volleyball Championship Ceremony held on February 21 at Medicine Hat College.
