OLDS, Alta. - The Olds College Broncos made a statement on Sunday, dispatching the Lethbridge College Kodiaks 5-0 at Richardson Pioneer Field on Sunday.
Jacob Duyvesteyn scored twice, while Garren Oosterhuis, Diego Forno, and Valentin Kirchner also scored for the Broncos (3-1-3), who moved into second place in the ACAC South on goal differential while also clinching a playoff spot.
Joao Vitor Duz Batista stayed composed in goal for the Broncos, registering the clean sheet with three saves.
Oosterhuis got the ball rolling for the Broncos in the 29th minute as he beat Finn McCann to put Olds College ahead, with Kirchner stepping up to convert a penalty for his fifth goal of the season to make it 2-0 Broncos going into halftime.
The second half was tightly contested most of the way until Duyvesteyn, who earned Player of the Game honours for Olds College, converted a run for his first ACAC goal in the 79th minute to extend the lead to three, further cementing the lead with another goal in the 88th minute before Forno iced the match in added time.
The Broncos will play a pair in Calgary this weekend against Ambrose (Friday at 8 p.m.) and SAIT (Sunday at 2 p.m.) while the Kodiaks, who will host the ACAC Men's Soccer Championship, will get a test run in Raymond on Saturday at 4 p.m. as they wrap up their regular season against Red Deer Polytechnic.
