Men's Soccer Huskies strike twice Sunday in weekend sweep of Wolves

The Keyano Huskies Men's Soccer team continued their perfect start to the 2022 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) outdoor season with a 2-0 win against the visiting Northwest Polytechnic Wolves Sunday at SMS Equipment Stadium inside Shell Place in Fort McMurray, Alta.

The opening goal came courtesy of William Ly as the Montreal, Que. product made good on a free kick in the twenty-first minute, slicing the ball into the net.

"It meant everything," Ly said. "After having missed four free kicks yesterday, I was determined to score one today. I took my chance, and it went in."

Eight minutes later in the twenty-ninth minute, James Bartha added his stamp by scoring for the sixth time in four ACAC games with Karl Tronche picking up an assist.

In net Sunday, goalkeeper Lucas Wood was perfect to record a clean sheet in his ACAC debut.

"It's the first time he's played at this level," Head Coach Niels Slotboom said. "Unfortunately, due to injury he couldn't get the jitters out in our preseason. He did well today and it's competitive in that net there.

"That's what we want because it drives up the level."

Ly and Evan Bedard were named Players of the Game for the Huskies and Wolves respectively.

The Huskies return to action next Saturday, hosting the Portage College Voyageurs in a single match. Kick-off for the men is at 2:00 p.m. at Shell Place. The Wolves return to the pitch next weekend at home, playing host The King's University Eagles.
