CALGARY, ALTA., (Oct. 23, 2021) - The SAIT Trojans men's soccer team are one win away from winning their first title in nearly a decade.
With their 3-0 victory over Red Deer Polytechnic on Saturday at SAIT's Cohos Commons Field, the Trojans captured the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) South Division title, and earned the right to go on and play for gold next weekend.
Waiting for them will be the host NAIT Ooks, who earned their ticket to the championship game with a 2-0 victory over Lakeland College.
SAIT has not won a league title since the 2012-13 season.
With the rain pouring down, the game started slow for both teams. That all changed in the 22nd minute when Zach Michaud scored for the Trojans, giving them the only goal they would need on the day.
Senay Haile (54') and Matteo Zanin (85') scored in the second half to seal the deal.
Michaud was named SAIT's Player of the Game, while Wataru Ogushi earned the award for Red Deer.
