Trojans score often in win over Vikings

CALGARY, ALTA., (Oct. 13, 2019) - The SAIT Trojans men's soccer team scored early and scored often on Sunday.

The Trojans scored four times in the first 10 minutes of the game, as they cruised to a 9-0 victory over the University of Alberta-Augustana Vikings in their Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) battle at SAIT's Cohos Commons Field.

"With us in the last couple of weeks, we have been working really hard but fighting it a little bit. We weren't getting the bounces and things weren't going our way," said Trojans head coach Connor Brady. "Saturday, we had a meeting and got back on the same page. . . Today was a really good performance from us, really well-rounded."

SAIT moves to 7-1-1 on the season. Augustana falls to 2-8.

Armando Garcia (3rd year, Edmonton, Alta., Bachelor of Business Administration) and Yusuph Kalenga (3rd year, Edmonton, Alta., English Language Foundations) each had a hat trick in the game.

Matthew Wideman (5th year, Calgary, Nutrition for Healthy Lifestyles) added two of his own, while Eduardo Filho (4th year, Paracatu, Brazil, Environmental Technology) added one of his own.

The Trojans now have three games this coming week to look forward to. Wednesday at home against Red Deer College (1pm), Friday at home against Ambrose University (4pm) and Sunday in Lacombe, Alta., against Old College (2pm).

Despite being one of the top teams in the ACAC's South Division, Brady's mindset does not change given the hectic schedule his team is about to embark on.

"This is preparation for Conference Championship; you could play three games in three days. If we want to reach the goal we want to reach, this should be something we embrace and learn from," he said. "We're going to use it to work on our recovery and find out what works best because we're going to be in this position again real soon."
