Lions control play but lose to shorthanded Vikings

For the second game in a row, Ambrose controlled the ball and easily won the time of possession battle, however an opportunistic Augustana squad still earned all 6 available points.  Quickly in this game (4th minute), the Vikings saw their team go down a man (#15 Paul Lousin) due to committing violent conduct.  This allowed the Lions to have time and space as they were able to play a game focused on possession through the midfield.  The Vikings however, specifically as a defensive unit, worked extremely well together. When breakdowns would happen, the Lions were unable to take advantage of the opportunity.  The Vikings frustrated the Lions, taking advantage of every opportunity they had, while somehow snuffing out any Ambrose rush.

In the first half, the Vikings had only 1 shot, but that was all they needed to give themselves the early 1-0 lead.  Throughout the game, Augustana was content, letting the Lions push in the offensive zone, and then counter-attack.  Both of the Vikings goals were scored on breakaway opportunities by Jaeden Norton, the first coming in the 32nd minute and second in the 70th minute sealed away the victory for the Vikings.

The Lions would score their first regular season goal in the extra time, off a free kick from Ibrahim Karama that Matthew Siebring was able to direct past Augustana goalkeeper David Lowe.

Player of the Game recognition were presented to Ian McIntosh for the Augustana Vikings and Daniel Welsh for the Ambrose Lions.
