Lethbridge withstands Broncos first half barrage to pull way in second

The Olds College Broncos men's soccer team lost to the Lethbridge College Kodiaks 3-0 Saturday, Sept. 21. Lethbridge goalie, Cody Ferguson held down in the first half and midfielder Jimmy Bukuru scored three second half goals to seal the victory.

The first half was scoreless with both teams getting chances and the game getting scrappy with hard plays both ways.

The Broncos outshot Lethbridge 13-5 in the first half with Broncos goalie Ryan Murphy making five saves and Lethbridge keeper Cody Ferguson making 11 saves.

The second half continued where the first half left off, with both teams playing physically. The first big chance came with 27 minutes left in the second half when Fabian Gromenida broke open and Lethbridge's goalie Cody Ferguson made a great save. About a minute later Lethbridge opened the scoring when Owen Beers sent Jimmy Bukuru in alone and he made no mistake putting the ball past Broncos goalie Ryan Murphy. Moments later Beers and Bukuru connected again to make the score 2-0 for Lethbridge.

With six minutes left in the game, Bukuru struck again, this time getting the ball from Tyler Bolen and quickly turning around and firing a laser past Murphy.

Player of the Game for Lethbridge was keeper Cody Ferguson with the clean sheet and the Pit Barbecue Player of the Game for the Broncos was midfielder Luiz Guimaraes.

Shots were 19-16 for Olds with Olds goalie Ryan Murphy making eight saves and Lethbridge's Cody Ferguson making ten saves.
