MSOC | The Kodiaks open their season with a clean slate!

Sept. 7, 2019 - The Lethbridge College Kodiaks were relentless at their home opener against the Augustana Vikings.

The game started with the Kodiaks attacking Augustana's half. In the 9th minute of the first half, Brayden Jetten took a shot from well behind the 18' arc as the ball just skimmed the upper crossbar and went out for a goal kick. The score remained 0-0.

It only took the Kodiaks three more minutes to create another counter attack as Austin Price passed a through ball to Easton Beaulieu who just remained onside, Easton chipped the ball past the right side of the keeper. It was 1-0 Kodiaks in the 12th minute of play. The Kodiaks continued to impress with their offensive power as senior Ben Knight set up Jimmy Bukuru for an easy shot on goal, there was nothing the keeper could do as Jimmy buried the second goal of the night for the Kodiaks in the 19th minute of play.

The Kodiaks would not stop there as three minutes later Ben Knight continued to show his dribbling magic as he set up Sodio Adekunle who showed no problem burying the third goal the night. It was 3-0 Kodiaks in the 22nd minute of the game. The Kodiaks kept composure of the game and created many opportunities.

Viking's keeper Alex Dobson was able to keep the Vikings in a game with a couple of great saves. In the 36th minute, the Kodiaks created a four vs two counter attack as Bukuru crossed the ball and from there it was an easy tap in for defender Jaden Veluw as he added on to the score. It was 4-0 Kodiaks. The Kodiaks were called 7 offsides during this half. The score remained 4-0 at the halftime whistle.

At the beginning of the second half, after a few opportunities to catch up the score, the Vikings did not take advantage of their opportunities. The Kodiaks continued to pressure the Vikings defence as their opportunities in the early minutes were also missed. The Kodiak's counterattack took effect in the 16th minute of the second half as striker Easton Beaulieu set up a beautiful pass for midfielder Ben Knight which Ben buried his shot wide to the left of the keeper. The Kodiaks took a 5-0 lead.
