March 14th, 2025 - Playoff Game 1

The Briercrest Clippers and Red Deer Kings met in the first game of the best of five ACAC men's hockey championship series Friday night, and it almost lasted until Saturday morning as the visiting Kings eked out a 3-2 double overtime victory.
Briercrest swept the regular season series with Red Deer, but the Kings are very familiar with successful playoff hockey as the two-time reigning league champs.
Austin Arsenault opened the scoring for the Clippers, but the game was very tightly contested and Red Deer's Holden Knights tied things up shortly afterward. From there, both Dominik Tmej and Kristian Lyon put on a show as both teams created dangerous chances that were turned aside by excellent goaltending.
The teams exchanged goals in dramatic fashion in the third period as tension built toward overtime, and it then turned into a battle of endurance with both teams desperately trying to find one final goal. The electricity in the crowd urged both sides up and down the ice and it wasn't until the waning moments of the fifth period when Nolan Doell managed to bang home the winner.
Game two goes tomorrow night at 7:00pm, it's sure to be epic as the Clippers will try to even the series.
