CALGARY, ALTA., (March 11, 2022) - The Keyano College Huskies moved one step closer to winning their first Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) championship.
The Huskies received 35 points from ACAC North Division Player of the Year Sean Michael-Clancy, as they defeated a scrappy Red Deer Polytechnic Kings team 100-88 in their Final Four semifinal game played Friday night at SAIT's Campus Centre.
Keyano has never won an ACAC title. The last time they played for one was in the 2012-13 season when they fell 88-85 to the then Red Deer College Kings.
Despite coming into the game as the heavy favourite following a perfect 16-0 regular season, the South's third-seeded Kings led by one after the opening quarter, 26-25.
It's then that the Huskies took control of the game, outscoring their opponents 31-15 in the second quarter to take a 56-42 lead into halftime.
Red Deer was able to cut into the lead at times, but could never do enough to take back the lead.
The Kings were led by Tyronn King, who had a team high 27 points while teammate Eduardo Crespo added 24.
Ringo Dau also shined for the Huskies, scoring 29 in the contest.
Both King and Dau were named their respective teams' Player of the Game.
