Huskies Take a Bite out of Vikings

The visiting University of Alberta Augustana Vikings and the host Keyano College Huskies tipped off tonight at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre's Canada Natural Gymnasium, each sporting a 13-7 record in Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) regular season.

Both teams have qualified for the 2018-2019 ACAC Men's Basketball Championships to be hosted February 28 - March 1, 2019 by Lakeland College Rustlers in Lloydminster, Alberta.

The key players for each team to watch tonight were Chris Oppong 14.8 points per game Stefan Jovic 8.8 rebounds per game and for the Huskies and Mason Hunter 16.3 points per game Michael Stasuik 6.3 rebounds per game for the visitors.

What impact would these four players have tonight?

Highlight of the first period was a Nickolas McDonald alley oop dunk as the home side goes up 25-17.

Vikings continued to find uncontested layups driving to the hoop down, 32-29 with 4:20 until the half.

Keyano hold on to a slim 42-39 lead after 20 minutes.

Vikings shooting 17-of-33 from field for 51.1% while Huskies are at 38.55% on 15-of-39 in the first half.

Lackluster play both sides in the opening minutes of third period, Huskies up 53-50 with five minutes remaining in third period.

A downtown three by Dante Dinter and a layup by Jovic make it 59-52 Huskies.

Highlight of the period, Nickolas McDonald fingertip low dribbling to beat two defenders for the tear drop swish.

Jovic breakaway dunk leaves rim and standard shaking 69-55.

Final score 99-83 Huskies.
