ACAC Curling Winter Regional - Day 1
EDMONTON, AB (January 20, 2023) – The 2023 ACAC Curling Winter Regional got underway on Friday night at the Avonair Curling Club in Edmonton, AB. Hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE), curlers from across the province came together looking to qualify for the conference championship tournament.
Six games kicked off the event in the 4 pm draw, matches in both the women and mixed events got the regional going. On the women's side, Concordia beat SAIT 8-3, Augustana defeated NAIT 7-3, and Red Deer came out on top of Lakeland 13-3. In the mixed match ups, Red Deer won against NAIT 10-5 and Lakeland took the win against Portage 7-4. The Friday 8:30 pm draw saw the women and mixed teams return to action, with the men's teams getting into their first games of the regional. In the women's games, Red Deer defeated Augustana 5-4, NAIT beat SAIT 8-2, and Concordia came out on top of Lakeland 9-3. In the mixed matchups, NAIT knocked off Portage 12-1 and Lakeland won against Red Deer 8-3. In the men's first draw of the regional, SAIT beat NAIT 5-3 while Augustana defeated Concordia 9-4.
Day Two of the Winter Regional goes Saturday with draws at 11:30 am and 5:30 pm.
