EDMONTON, AB (January 20, 2023) – The 2023 ACAC Curling Winter Regional got underway on Friday night at the Avonair Curling Club in Edmonton, AB. Hosted by Concordia University of Edmonton (CUE), curlers from across the province came together looking to qualify for the conference championship tournament.
Six games kicked off the event in the 4 pm draw, matches in both the women and mixed events got the regional going. On the women's side, Concordia beat SAIT 8-3, Augustana defeated NAIT 7-3, and Red Deer came out on top of Lakeland 13-3. In the mixed match ups, Red Deer won against NAIT 10-5 and Lakeland took the win against Portage 7-4. The Friday 8:30 pm draw saw the women and mixed teams return to action, with the men's teams getting into their first games of the regional. In the women's games, Red Deer defeated Augustana 5-4, NAIT beat SAIT 8-2, and Concordia came out on top of Lakeland 9-3. In the mixed matchups, NAIT knocked off Portage 12-1 and Lakeland won against Red Deer 8-3. In the men's first draw of the regional, SAIT beat NAIT 5-3 while Augustana defeated Concordia 9-4.
Day Two of the Winter Regional goes Saturday with draws at 11:30 am and 5:30 pm.
EDMONTON, AB (January 21, 2023) – The 2023 ACAC Curling Winter Regional continued on Saturday in Edmonton, AB at the Avonair Curling Club.
Day two kicked off with all men, women, and mixed teams in action during the 11:30 am Draw 4. In the men's games, Augustana beat NAIT 10-6 and Concordia came out on top of SAIT by a 7-5 score. In the women's games, Lakeland defeated SAIT 8-5, Concordia needed an extra end to win against Augustana 6-5, and Red Deer stayed undefeated with a 5-1 win over NAIT. Finally, in the mixed games, Red Deer knocked off Portage 8-6 and Lakeland overcame NAIT 9-6.
All three categories were once again in action in the 5:30 pm evening draw. In the final men's draw of the regional, Concordia beat NAIT 5-1 and Augustana won against SAIT 7-5. Augustana finishes the weekend a perfect 3-0, Concordia came in at 2-1, SAIT at 1-2 and NAIT at 0-3. In the women's games, Concordia defeated NAIT 7-2 to stay undefeated, Red Deer also remained undefeated with a 6-3 win over SAIT, and Augustana beat Lakeland 7-2. In the mixed event, NAIT overcame Portage 10-1 and Red Deer knocked off Lakeland 6-3.
The third and final day of the Winter Regional goes Sunday morning at a 10 am draw.
EDMONTON, AB (January 22nd, 2023) – The 2023 ACAC Curling Winter Regional came to an end Sunday afternoon as they completed Draw 5 for the women, and mixed teams. An excellent weekend of games, and exciting province-wide matchups.
In the women's games, Red Deer finished off the weekend strong against the Thunder winning 7-2, leaving them undefeated. NAIT won against Lakeland 8-0, and Augustana beat SAIT 10-1. In the mixed events Lakeland came out on top against NAIT 9-6, and Portage walked away with 1-0 score against Red Deer due to a default.
That concludes the Winter Regionals here in Edmonton. The next curling tournament is the ACAC Curling Championships hosted by the Lakeland Rustlers, March 3rd to 5th.
