Day 2 Recap

 

Draw 6 had all sheets being used for the first time in the Conference Championships

In the only mixed game of the draw Lakeland took on RDC.  An injury to the Lakeland skip and shuffle of the line up impacted the team and Red Deer took the game by a score of 8 - 3.  Red Deer will take on Concordia for Gold at 2 tomorrow while Lakeland and MacEwan will battle for Bronze at 10 am.

The page started for the men with number 1 Augustana taking on number 2 Olds.  It was a close battle and in end  Augustana took the 5 - 2 win meaning that the Vikings will play for gold on Sunday at 2.  NAIT squeaked out a 7 - 6 win over Red Deer to keep their gold medal hopes alive  while Red Deer knows the best they can do is bronze.

In the women's division Red Deer won over Concordia in convincing fashion by a score of 8 - 2.  This means Red Deer will play for Gold on Sunday at 2 pm.  In the other women's game the Augustana Vikings defeated  the NAIT Ooks  by a score of 7 - 3.  NAIT will  compete for Bronze on Sunday.

 

Draw 5 saw the mixed divison enter into the page playoff and the women's teams finish the round robin.

Concordia women took on Augustana  on sheet one which proved to be a fairly evenly matched game.  In  the end Concordia pulled out a 6 - 4 victory.  In the other women's round robin game Red Deer took on NAIT.  Taking 4 in the 4th end and stealing 3 in the 5th resulted in the teams shaking hands after 5 and an 8 - 1 win for Red Deer.

The mixed teams entered the page with both games being a repeat of the morning games.  Concordia got on a roll and scored 3 in the 4th and stole 2 in the fifth resulting in an early end to the game and  Concordia moving on to Sundays gold medal game with a 7 - 1 victory.  The Red Deer MacEwan game was a fairly evenly matched competition.  The difference was  Red Deer taking 3 on the 6th end on their way to the 7 - 5 victory.

 

Draw 4 saw the mixed and men's divisions complete their round robin play.

On the mixed side it was the battle of  the two undefeated teams to date.  Concordia started off with 2 in the first and Lakeland battled back to tie the game after 6 ends.  The difference in the game ended up being when Concordia took 3 in the 7th on their way to a 6 - 3 win.  In the second mixed game MacEwan took on Red Deer.  Red Deer scored big in the 4th and 6th ends on their way to a 6 - 4 victory.

On the men's side Augustana took on the undefeated Olds Broncos.  Olds went into the 4th end break with a slim 3 - 2 lead.  A steal of 3 in the 7th by Augustana proved to be the difference maker as the Vikings took the game 6 - 3.  NAIT and Red Deer battled in the second men's game with Ooks scoring in 6 of the 7 ends of play enroute to a 7 - 2 victory.
