Fall Regional wraps up in Red Deer


Sunday, featured another strong day by the ACAC student-athletes on the ice as they tried to improve their record before the Winter Regional. While the teams had winning as a goal, sportsmanship and camaraderie were evident at the Pidherney Curling Centre throughout the weekend.

Here is a summary of what happened on the final day.

Men

9:00 a.m.    LAKE vs. NAIT
In close competition, the NAIT Men's Curling team defeated Lakeland College 4-3.

9:00 a.m.    UAA vs. RDC
RDC won 4-2 over U of A Augustana.

12:30 p.m.    NAIT vs. UAA
The Augustana Men's Curling team defeated NAIT 11-4.

12:30 p.m.    OLDS vs. LAKE
Olds College won 6-2 over Lakeland College.

Women

9:00 a.m.    CUE vs. NAIT
NAIT defeated Concordia University 8-0.

9:00 a.m.    RDC vs. UAA
The U of A Augustana Women's Curling team won 8-3 over RDC.

9:00 a.m.    LAKE vs. GMU
Lakeland College picked up a 9-2 victory over MacEwan University.

12:30 p.m.    LAKE vs. RDC
The RDC Women's team capped off their day with a 6-3 win over Lakeland College.

12:30 p.m.    NAIT vs. GMU
MacEwan University defeated NAIT 7-3.

12:30 p.m.    CUE vs. UAA
Concordia University won 9-3 over U of A Augustana.

Mixed

9:00 a.m.    RDC vs. NAIT
The RDC Mixed Curling team defeated NAIT 6-3.

9:00 a.m.    OLDS vs. GMU
Defeating MacEwan University 4-3, Olds College picked up the victory in this matchup.

9:00 a.m.    PC vs. LAKE
Lakeland College won 6-3 over Portage College.

9:00 a.m.    UAA vs. CUE
Concordia University defeated U of A Augustana 10-2.

12:30 p.m.    GMU vs. UAA
MacEwan University picked up an 8-2 win over U of A Augustana.

12:30 p.m.    LAKE vs. OLDS
Winning 5-4, Lakeland College edged Olds College to finish their day.

12:30 p.m.    RDC vs. PC
RDC won 9-1 over Portage College.

12:30 p.m.    NAIT vs. CUE
Concordia University won 10-1 over NAIT.

Red Deer College Curling Head Coach Brad Hamilton thought that the level of play took another step up on the final day.

"I think it was three good days at the Fall Regional. The curling probably got better as we progressed," said Hamilton. "There are some tired student-athletes out there today but it was pretty good curling overall."

Throughout the weekend, there were many great individual and team performances which sets the stage for an exciting Winter Regional. NAIT will host the event Jan. 27 – 29, 2017.
