Champions Crowned & Nationals Await: ACAC Badminton Championship Recap

Edmonton, AB – The 2025 ACAC Badminton Championship at Concordia University of Edmonton was a thrilling weekend filled with fast-paced rallies, standout performances, and true sportsmanship. With the Concordia Thunder hosting the King's University Eagles, SAIT Trojans, and NAIT Ooks, the gym was filled with energy as athletes gave it their all in pursuit of championship glory and a ticket to Nationals.

Day 1 – Team Event Sparks the Action

The Team Event set the stage for an exciting opening day, with each institution vying for the coveted 2025 ACAC Team Championship.

Semi-Finals:

  • NAIT overpowered Concordia, claiming victory in six of seven matches.
  • King's edged out SAIT, taking four of seven matches to book their ticket to the final.

Bronze Medal Match:

  • The SAIT Trojans dominated Concordia, sweeping all seven matches to take home the bronze medal.

Championship Match:

  • In a hard-fought battle, the King's Eagles soared to victory, defeating the NAIT Ooks in four of seven events to secure the 2025 ACAC Badminton Team Championship!

Day 2 – Individual Events & National Championship Qualifications

With a trip to CCAA Nationals on the line, Day 2 was all about individual brilliance. Athletes left everything on the court, delivering high-intensity performances in singles, doubles, and mixed-doubles play. Here's how the podium shaped up:

Mixed Doubles

  • Gold: Mahdi Ahmadi + Melissa Roque (TKU)
  • Silver: Davis Wong + Khushi Vaniya (NAIT)
  • Bronze: Om Patel + Noel Do (NAIT)

Women's Doubles

  • Gold: Ziyu Kong + Archelle Ouano (SAIT)
  • Silver: Noel Do + Samantha Tran (NAIT)
  • Bronze: Anya Caingles + Rachel Chan (NAIT)

Men's Doubles

  • Gold: Carl Canillo + Paul Ouano (SAIT)
  • Silver: Raphael Motel + Jonathan Su (CUE)
  • Bronze: Ray Wang + Caelen Ma (NAIT)

Women's Singles

  • Gold: Emma Tran (CUE)
  • Silver: Sienna Pricca (SAIT)
  • Bronze: Astrea Borromeo (SAIT)

Men's Singles

  • Gold: Hossein Ahmadi (TKU)
  • Silver: Smit Patel (NAIT)
  • Bronze: Gurmanjot Singh (SAIT)

With all gold and silver medalists officially qualifying for the 2025 CCAA National Badminton Championship, the ACAC will be well represented at The King's University from February 27 – March 1.

The stage is set. The best in the country are coming.
