ACAC Badminton Tournament #1 Recap – Full Results and Winners

Calgary, AB - The ACAC Badminton Tournament #1 hosted by SAIT Polytechnic showcased intense competition between the region's top badminton players. With teams from SAIT Trojans, TKU Eagles, CUE Thunder, and NAIT Ooks, the event was packed with action across multiple categories, culminating in a series of exciting finals.

Men's Singles

In Men's Singles, Hossein Ahmadi of TKU emerged as the champion, securing the title with a dominant 21-9, 21-14 victory over Om Patel of NAIT in the final. Ahmadi's path to the top included strong performances in the earlier rounds, where he triumphed over rivals like Vishw Patel (NAIT) and Jonathan Ko (CUE). Patel, despite his loss in the final, earned the silver medal, while Jonathan Ko (CUE) claimed the third-place spot after defeating Patel in the 3rd/4th place match. Vishw Patel (NAIT) rounded out the top four in men's singles.

Women's Singles

In the Women's Singles, Melissa Roque from TKU claimed the top prize, outplaying Sienna Pricca of SAIT in the final with a 21-5, 21-7 scoreline. Roque's impressive performance saw her sweep through the competition, including a semifinal win over Ella Dolan of NAIT. Pricca took the silver, while Ella Dolan (NAIT) earned the bronze medal after beating Emma Tran (CUE) in the 3rd/4th place match. Tran, who had a strong tournament, finished in fourth place.

Men's Doubles

The Men's Doubles competition saw Raphael Motel and Jonathan Su from CUE rose to the top, defeating the TKU duo of Hossein Ahmadi and Mahdi Ahmadi in a thrilling final, 21-15, 16-21, 22-20. Motel and Su's teamwork was key to their victory, while the Ahmadi brothers settled for second place. Greg Friske and Caelen Mah (NAIT) claimed third place, defeating Milikias Birhaneb and Vevik Kodi (TKU) in the bronze medal match.

Women's Doubles

In Women's Doubles, Ziyu Kong and Archelle Ouano from SAIT took home the gold, defeating Noel Do and Samantha Tran of NAIT 21-14, 21-10 in the final. Kong and Ouano's victory came after a convincing win in the semifinals. Do and Tran settled for the silver medal, while Astrea Borromeo and Sienna Pricca (SAIT) earned the bronze after a strong finish against Ella Gifford and Emma Tran (CUE), who rounded out the top four.

Mixed Doubles

In Mixed Doubles, Mahdi Ahmadi and Melissa Roque from TKU were crowned champions, defeating Raphael Motel and Samantha Richard (CUE) in a close final, 21-5, 21-12. The duo's performance was sharp and tactical throughout the tournament, securing them the gold medal. George Cho and Archelle Ouano (SAIT) claimed the bronze, finishing ahead of Gurmanjot Singh and Ziyu Kong (SAIT), who took fourth place.

Overall, the tournament was a thrilling showcase of badminton talent, with players from NAIT, TKU, CUE, and SAIT battling it out in an exciting series of matches.
