2024-2025 ACAC Women's Overall Rookie of The Year

Edmonton, AB (April 9, 2025) – 

ACAC WOMEN'S OVERALL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, MELISSA ROQUE:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Melissa Roque of the The King’s University Eagles has been selected as the 2025 ACAC Women's Overall Rookie of the Year. 

Melissa Roque is a member of The King’s University Badminton team and a first-year Bachelor of Science student from Leduc, Alberta. Melissa’s strong work ethic and outstanding character, serve to make her an excellent teammate as well as a formidable force on the court.

Roque has proudly represented Canada on the international stage, securing a bronze medal in mixed doubles at the Pan American Championships and competing at the 2024 World Junior Championships. Domestically, she dominated the Canadian junior circuit, capturing multiple titles throughout her career.

Making an impressive debut in the ACAC, Roque went undefeated in the regular season, clinching singles and mixed doubles titles in every tournament including the ACAC Championships. “Her playing style is both fierce and elegant, demonstrating sharp tactical awareness and an ability to execute winning shots at crucial moments” stated Head Coach Naeem Haque. 

Melissa was also an ACAC All Conference Player, Female Rookie of the Year and Female Player of the Year for Badminton, as well as CCAA Academic All Canadian, All Canadian, and Female Player of the Year. 

Beyond the court, Roque excels academically, maintaining a high GPA that reflects her intelligence and dedication. She is also passionate about growing the sport, serving as a coach at B-Active Badminton Club, where she mentors young athletes and helps develop the next generation of Canadian badminton players.

With her talent, determination, and leadership, Melissa Roque is undoubtedly a rising star, poised for even greater achievements in the years to come.
