2025 ACAC Indoor Track Rookies of The Year

Edmonton, AB (March 19, 2025) – 

FEMALE INDOOR TRACK ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, ASHLEE WALKER:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Ashlee Walker of the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder has been selected as the 2025 ACAC Women’s Indoor Track Rookie of the Year. 

Walker has been a force to be reckoned with in her rookie season, making an immediate impact for the Thunder Indoor Track team. The talented runner from Sherwood Park, AB, led all rookie runners in total points with 25 at this year's ACAC Indoor Track Championships. Her his dominance was fueled by capturing gold medals in the 1000m, 1500m, 4 x 200m Relay, and 4 x 400m Relay events over the championship weekend. 

"Ashlee’s dedication, work ethic, and passion for the sport have been evident all season, and this recognition is well deserved." said Nate MacLellan, Concordia University of Edmonton’s Athletic Director. “Her achievement’s is a testament to the strength of our program and the incredible potential she has for the future. We are so proud of her and look forward to seeing her continued success on and off the track!"

Off the track, Walker is pursuing her Bachelor of Arts at Concordia University of Edmonton. Her incredible first year has set the tone for what promises to be a remarkable collegiate running career. 

This prestigious award was recognized at the 2025 ACAC Indoor Track Championship, hosted by Concordia, Medicine Hat College, The’ King’s University, University of Alberta Augustana, and SAIT in Edmonton, Alberta.


MALE INDOOR TRACK ROOKIE OF THE YEAR, TYLER WIEBE:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Tyler Wiebe of the Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks has been selected as the 2025 ACAC Indoor Track Men’s Rookie of the Year. 

“Tyler brought his usual energy, setting a new school record in the 60m with a second-place finish and taking the win in the 300m,” says Kodiaks head coach, Dr. Simon Schaerz. “Two outstanding performances on a big stage for a first year athlete is an impressive accomplishment!” 

“Tyler has made an immediate impact with the Kodiaks Indoor team and it showed with his results from the season and championships this past weekend,” says Todd Caughlin, Kodiaks Athletics and Recreation Services Director. “Its always amazing watching a first year student athlete step into the collegiate level of competition and excel. Tyler has definitely done that!” 

Wiebe is a 1st year student athlete enrolled in the Pre-Carpentry program. He is from Coaldale, AB. where he attend Kate Andrews High school. 

This prestigious award was recognized at the 2025 ACAC Indoor Track Championships hosted in the Butterdome at the U of A in Edmonton, AB..
