The 2025 ACAC Badminton Championships Preview

The 2025 ACAC Badminton Championships Preview

Edmonton, AB (February 13, 2025) - The ACAC Badminton Championships are almost here, with teams across the conference battling for medals and banners after a fiercely competitive regular season. Concordia Thunder will play host to the action.

Team Event

The NAIT Ooks (485 points) enter as the top seed, followed by the SAIT Trojans (417 points) and King's Eagles (413 points) in a tight race. The Concordia Thunder (376 points) round out the standings and will look to defend their 2024 ACAC team title on home court.

Men’s Singles

The men's singles division is shaping up to be a thriller, with Hossein Ahmadi (TKU) and Smit Patel (NAIT) leading the pack. Hossein claimed victory in the first two tournaments, but Smit came out on top in the third on his home court. With defending champion Eason Wong (SAIT) now graduated, the title is anyone’s to take.

Women’s Singles

Melissa Roque (King’s Eagles) has dominated every tournament this season, while Khushi Vaniya (NAIT), Sienna Pricca (SAIT), and Emma Tran (CUE) have consistently placed in the top four. Last year’s champion, Jasleen Kaur (Concordia), has transitioned to coaching, meaning a new champion will be crowned.

Men’s Doubles

The Men’s Doubles competition has seen shifts at the top. Raphael Motel and Jonathan Su (Concordia) won the first tournament, but Hossein Ahmadi and Mahdi Ahmadi claimed the next two. Last year’s champions, Jason Chiu and Paul Ouano (SAIT), have split up, with Paul now competing with a new partner. Can he reclaim the title with a different teammate?

Women’s Doubles

The SAIT Trojans duo of Ziyu Kong and Archelle Ouano have been unstoppable, winning every tournament. Noel Do and Samantha Tran (NAIT) have consistently finished second. With last year’s champions, Cecilia Wolski and Abigail Ledda (King’s Eagles), now retired, the gold medals are up for grabs.

Mixed Doubles

Mahdi Ahmadi and Melissa Roque have dominated this season, winning every tournament. With an unpredictable field behind them, the championship could bring surprises. Mahdi was last year’s champion alongside former teammate Khushi Vaniya—can he and Melissa defend TKU’s mixed doubles banner, or will a new duo rise to the occasion?

With every division highly competitive, the stage is set for an exciting weekend of badminton. Who will step up and claim the 2025 ACAC Championship banners?

Catch all the action February 15-16 at the Ralph King Athletic Centre, Concordia University of Edmonton.
