2021-22 ACAC Women's Overall Rookie of The Year
Edmonton, AB (April 06, 2022) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce that Meagan Wiebe of the SAIT Trojans soccer, futsal and indoor track team has been selected as the 2021-22 ACAC Female Rookie of the Year. Award sponsored by Vereburn Medical Supplies.
Wiebe set the bar extremely high for the rest of her post-secondary athletic career, capturing two team gold medals (futsal and soccer), a team bronze medal (indoor track) along with multiple individual achievements in just her first season.
She scored an impressive 13 goals (3 of them game winners) in 6 regular season games to be named the South Division's Rookie and Player of the Year. The Calgary product also earned ACAC All-Conference and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) All-Canadian nods before helping her team capture their first ACAC gold medal in nearly 20 years, and just a few weeks later, a bronze medal at the CCAA National Championship.
In the winter semester, Wiebe tackled futsal as well as indoor track. In fact, she swapped jersey for singlet multiple times during the March 26-27 weekend as she competed in both Championship events in Edmonton. In futsal, she again captured a gold medal (the first in SAIT's history), while in track, her women's team took bronze.
"Meagan is a great person on and off the field. She is not a very vocal person, but when she does speak, we all listen," said Trojans women's soccer and futsal head coach, John Talerico. "She works very hard at practice and does 2-3 more times more on her own, which really shows when she plays. Everyone talks about her offensive prowess, but her defensive understanding and work rate is just as high. She is deserving of every accolade she receives."
Meagan Wiebe is a Diagnostic Medical Sonography student at SAIT.
