2021-22 ACAC Women’s Volleyball Players of the Year

Edmonton, AB (March 9, 2022)

North Player of The Year:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Jenay Varga of the Lakeland Rustlers has been selected as the 2021-22 ACAC Women's Volleyball North Division Player of the Year (Sponsored by Volleyball Alberta).

Jenay led the Rustlers Volleyball Program to a 14-2 regular season record and top spot in the North Division. During the regular season she played in 54 sets and ended league play accumulating 4.6 points per set. Her individual stat totals had her finishing the regular season at 3.89 kills/set, and 0.59 aces/sets which earned her second place in all three categories in the ACAC. Jenay's impressive stat line shows the all-around dominant player that she has become.

"Jenay has been an absolute treat to coach," commented Head Coach Austin Dyer, "she works hard, is a great teammate and is as humble a person and athlete you can find. She shows up every day with a great attitude and the determination to improve and get better. I'm very excited to continue to work with Jenay to see how good she is going to become."

Varga is from Muenster, Saskatchewan and currently in her 2nd year of eligibility. She is working towards her general studies degree at Lakeland College and still figuring out what she wants to do after College. Congratulations on an amazing season Jenay!

This prestigious award will be recognized at the 2022 ACAC Women's Volleyball Championship hosted by Red Deer Polytechnic in Red Deer, Alberta.

South Player of The Year:

The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Anna Carlson of the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens has been selected as the 2021/2022 ACAC Women's Volleyball South Player of the Year (Sponsored by Volleyball Alberta).

Carlson played an important role in helping to lead the first place Queens (16-0) to an undefeated season. The last time an ACAC Women's Volleyball team performed this rare feat was back in the 2003/2004 season.

The five-foot-11 outside hitter recorded 137 kills (2.49 kills per set) with an efficient 0.478 hitting percentage, which ranked second in the league. Carlson, a fifth-year from Sylvan Lake, added 82 digs, 27 service aces, 26 blocks, seven assists, and contributed 3.5 points per set.

"Anna is a dominant player in this conference – a dominant force offensively and blocking wise," said Chris Wandler, Red Deer Polytechnic Queens Volleyball Interim Head Coach. "Her numbers don't really dictate how much of a factor she plays."

The Bachelor of Science Nursing student is a positive teammate, who provides leadership on and off the court.

"She is well deserved of this honour," added Wandler.
