OCTOBER 28 – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Breanna Callander of Concordia University of Edmonton has been selected as the 2021-22 ACAC Women's Soccer North Player of the Year.
Appearing in five regular season matches for the Concordia Thunder, Callander was an important piece in the midfield for the Thunder. She led her team with five goals, including a game winning goal against NAIT in September, helping the Thunder clinch a second place finish in the ACAC North Division. In the playoffs, Callander was again a steady force in the Thunder midfield and chipped in an assist to help Concordia chase a medal in the 2021-22 season.
Interim Director of Athletics and Recreation, Nathaniel MacLellan, praised the work ethic of the 3rd year midfielder, by stating, "After having an immediate impact on the Thunder line up during her first two seasons here at Concordia, it was nice to see Breanna embrace a leadership role on the team this year. The long offseason did not seem to effect Breanna's determination as she continued to be a threat on the pitch in every game and came in clutch when the team needed her to. Concordia University of Edmonton and the department of Thunder Athletics is very proud of Breanna for receiving this prestigious award. Congratulations!"
In her third season at Concordia, Callander has appeared in 25 games with the Thunder scoring 17 goals in her career. The Edmonton native is working towards her Bachelor of Science degree.
