Scott Kohlman Honoured as 2016-17 ACAC Men’s Indoor Track Runner of the Year

EDMONTON, AB (March 7, 2017) – The Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) is pleased to announce Scott Kohlman of the MacEwan University Griffins has been selected as the 2016-17 ACAC Men's Indoor Track Runner of the Year.

At the ACAC Championships over the weekend in Lethbridge, Kohlman won three individual silver medals (men's 1000 metres, 1500m, 3000m), and added an individual bronze (600m), while helping MacEwan's 4x400m relay team finish with a silver.

"I kind of knew he might be the athlete of the year by making the podium each time and with how many points he racked up, but it was a nice surprise that he won, for sure," said coach Drew Carver of the first-year Engineering Transfer student-athlete from Bashaw, Alta. "He and teammate Brandon Toal carried the load of work for the men's team, running in every event except the sprint – yeoman's service like you wouldn't believe." 

Kohlman secured almost half of MacEwan's 67 team points (32), but the Griffins fell just shy of the ACAC team championship, six points behind the SAIT Trojans.

This prestigious award was presented to Kohlman at the 2017 ACAC Indoor Track Championship held on March 3-4 at Lethbridge College.
