ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Melissa Roque’s remarkable undefeated season continued last weekend at the ACAC Badminton Provincials, where she once again proved why she’s one of the top rising stars in Canadian collegiate badminton.

Roque played a pivotal role in securing The King’s University its third ACAC Team Championship, winning all her matches in the team event. But her dominance didn’t stop there. At the ACAC Banquet, she made history by becoming the first-ever King’s female badminton athlete to achieve a rare triple crown—ACAC All-Conference, ACAC Women’s Rookie of the Year, and ACAC Women’s Player of the Year—all in a single season. In addition to her individual accolades, Roque also punched her ticket to the CCAA Nationals, which will be hosted at The King’s University, after capturing the Mixed Doubles Provincial Title alongside partner Mahdi Ahmadi. Her incredible season is a testament to her dedication, relentless work ethic, and passion for the sport. As a first-year Bachelor of Science student from Edmonton, Roque has not only set the standard for excellence at The King’s University but has also cemented herself as a force to be reckoned with in Canadian collegiate badminton.

GAME ON: A GLIMPSE AHEAD
With Nationals on the horizon, all eyes will be on Roque as she looks to cap off her historic season with even more success. The King's Eagles are hosting the 2025 CCAA National Badminton Championship from February 27 - March 1.
