Queens wrap up regular season with victory in Olds

Ahead of hosting the CCAA Women's Volleyball National Championship, the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens finished their regular season on a high, defeating the Olds College Broncos in four sets (25-20, 25-18, 21-25, 25-23) at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday.

With the victory, the Queens (13-6) finish as the second seed in the ACAC South for the ACAC Women's Volleyball Championship in Lethbridge, where they will play The King's University Eagles in a quarterfinal on Thursday, February 22.

Emma Holmes led the attack for the Queens with 17 points (16 kills, one ace) and a team-high 15 digs, while Autumn Roos also posted a 17-point performance (10 kills, four aces, three blocks) to go with three digs, and Rachel Perry also got into double-figures with a 10-point night on nine kills and a block with seven digs.

For the Broncos (2-17), Sarah Merkosky had a big night with 17 points (13 kills, three aces, one block) to go with 12 digs. Meanwhile, Julia Pedersen (eight kills, one ace, one block) and Milan Schapowal (five kills, two aces, three blocks) each added 10 points, with Pedersen also adding five digs and Schapowal posting three of her own.
