Lions sweep weekend doubleheader against Broncos

The Ambrose University Lions turned in a clinical performance on the road, defeating the Olds College Broncos in straight sets (25-19, 25-13, 25-21) at the Ralph Klein Centre on Saturday.

Elise Wagner was dominant all over the court for the Lions (9-4) as she finished with 19 points (17 kills, one ace, one block) and six digs, while Willow Lewington brought a complete game with 12 points (eight points, four aces) and Gracee Fehr was strong at the net, with six of her 11 points coming off blocks.

For the Broncos (2-11), Sarah Merkosky led the attack with seven points (six kills, one block), while Julia Pedersen chipped in with six points (four kills, two blocks) and Milan Schapowal earned four of her five points off blocks. Dani Bryant turned in another solid defensive performance, finishing with a match-high 16 digs.

Next up, Ambrose will lock up with the Briercrest College Clippers for a doubleheader with second place in the ACAC South in the balance, while the Broncos will head south for a pair of matches with the Lethbridge College Kodiaks; both will see the court at 6 p.m. on Friday, January 26, with both matchups available on ACACTV.ca and TELUS OptikTV channel 1998.
