Women's Volleyball Rustlers sweep Huskies in Fort McMurray

Fort McMurray, Alta. (January 19, 2024) -Lakeland College Rustlers 3 Keyano Huskies 0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-17)

The Lakeland Rustlers proved why they're one of the top teams in the conference Friday night, taking down the Keyano Huskies in straight sets at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta. 

Avery Bates led the Rustlers with nine kills, one ahead of the duo of Jenay Varga and Lana Matthews, who each had eight on the day. Bates also led the squad with three aces. Seanna Trumier led the visiting Rustlers with 22 digs. Jana Laing collected 17 assists in three sets of work. 

On the home side of the ball, Amanada Onyeukwu and Megan Polant tied for the team lead with seven kills each. Erika Box handled setting duties for the Huskies, collecting 22 assists and seven digs in the process. 

Raisa Stokes led the Huskies in the dig department, earning 14 on the night. 

The two teams will reconvene at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. for the rematch.
