Rustlers sweep Vikings

Lakeland women's volleyball met the expectations of a nearly sold out crowd in Lloydminster.

The Rustlers hosted the Augustana Vikings Saturday night, in the last home event of the first half. The two teams met in exhibition play this September, where the Rustlers swept the Vikings, and last met in league play back in February, where the green, gold and white swept Augustana to win the ACAC Championship.

The opening five minutes of the match were among the most electric action of the season so far, with both teams trading blows at the net and the service line. Augustana took a 14-13 lead and then the home team took over, forcing the Vikings into numerous errors throughout the evening. Final set scores were 25-17, 25-20, 25-17.

Lana Matthews had 9 kills, 3 service aces and 18 digs, while Seanna Trumier won Player of the Game, with 8 kills (no errors) and 9 digs. Emily Peterson had 8 kills and two aces for the Vikings, who drop to 7-2 on the season.

Lakeland remains undefeated at home and have just one road match left this semester, which is the rematch with Augustana on Friday.
