Women's Volleyball Huskies reverse sweep Kodiaks at home

Fort McMurray, Alta. (November 18) - Lethbridge College Kodiaks 2 Keyano Huskies 3 (22-25, 18-25, 25-16, 25-23, 15-8)

Never say never. The motto of The Biebs rang true for the Keyano Huskies Women's Volleyball team Saturday night as they pulled off a reverse sweep to take down the visiting Lethbridge College Kodiaks in five sets at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre in Fort McMurray, Alta.

While the Huskies hung around enough to make things close on the scoreboard, it was all Kodiaks in the opening go of things as they quickly went up by a pair of sets. A 25-16 win in the third set changed things and a narrow 25-23 set win energized the Huskies in front of their home crowd. After going up big in the fifth set, the Kodiaks challenged to chip away at the deficit, but couldn't overcome the difference in the end.

Karlene Kaminski's 15 kills led the Huskies with Hannah Shelemey's 12 kills and Megan Polant's 10 also featuring in double digits. Shelemey added to her 12 kills with a team-leading 23 digs, two ahead of a 21-dig performance from Raisa Stokes. Erika Box handled setting duties well once again, racking up 34 assists on the night.

Shane Fowlie led the visiting Kodiaks with nine kills, two ahead of teammates Irina Korovina and Abby Sauder. Korovina had a team-leading 10 digs in the match to go along with her offensive performance. Taryn Bach contributed 26 assists from the setter role for the match.

Both sides will close out the 2023 sides of their campaigns next weekend with the Kodiaks visiting Red Deer to take on the Queens while the Huskies invade Edmonton to challenge the NAIT Ooks.
