Thunder weather early storm to brush past Broncos

The Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder weathered an early storm to defeat the Olds College Broncos in straight sets (25-22, 25-17, 25-23) at the Ralph Klein Centre on Friday.

Concordia (3-4) was led by a 12-point performance from Emma Thompson (11 kills, one block) along with four digs, while Tanisha Cronin chipped in with 11 points (10 kills, one block) and seven digs, and Sydney Horyn added nine points (seven kills, one ace, one block) and three digs of her own; Jenna May ran an efficient offence with 32 assists on the evening. 

For the Broncos (0-6), Julia Pedersen finished with nine kills to lead all attackers to go with nine digs, while Kristen Pauls added eight kills and three digs of her own, and Lexi Lafreniere posted seven points (four kills, three blocks) and six digs. The Broncos also got double-digit dig performances from Dani Bryant (13) and Sydney Joyce (10).

Both teams are back on the court tomorrow at 6 p.m., with the Thunder returning home to host the SAIT Trojans and the Broncos heading to Edmonton to battle The King's University Eagles.
