Clippers Dominate Rattlers in Straight Sets

By Jeff Misener

The Medicine Hat Rattlers trekked to Caronport, SK, to play their season opener against the Briercrest Clippers in ACAC women's volleyball action. The Clippers easily extended their win streak to four matches with a decisive 25-17, 25-15, 25- 14 triumph.

Crisp attacks and accurate passing from both sides marked the initial action. The Clippers' enjoyed early success in the middle, led by the blocking prowess of Rachel Stead and Summer Okerstrom. Anica Haberstock's efforts from the right side kept Medicine Hat close, but the team could not find the necessary finishing touch in the waning moments of the first set.

The Rattlers combined scrappy play and strong hitting from Brooklyn Tkachuk to grab an early advantage in set two, but Briercrest veterans Faith Buhler and Julia Beer delivered bombs on offense and baffled the visitors on serve, allowing the Clippers to coast home with ease.

Early in set three, the Clippers found consistency in their serving game as Brooklyn Buhler and Rachel Stead handcuffed the Rattler defenders. Tkachuk and Buhler traded the thunder from the left side, but it was Beer's quality from the service line that launched the Clippers to an impressive victory.

Player of the Game for Briercrest was Brynn Hardy who contributed two digs and two assists to the Clipper cause. For Medicine Hat, Brooklyn Tkachuk tallied three digs, five kills, and one ace to earn POG honours.
