Eagles open season with four-set win against Huskies in Fort McMurray

Fort McMurray, Alta. (October 13, 2023) - TKU Eagles 3 at Keyano Huskies 1 (25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18)

The King's University Eagles started their 2023-24 season with a four-set victory (25-23, 25-16, 21-25, 25-18) against the Keyano Huskies Women's Volleyball team in Fort McMurray Friday.

Challenging hard in the first set, the Huskies used a rauccous home crowd to keep pace with the Eagles, though they'd ultimately fall in the first set by a two-point margin. After an Eagles win in the second set, the Huskies responded with a 25-21 third set to get back in the game before the Eagles closed out the game in the fourth set. 

Brooke Risselada led the victorious Eagles with 18 kills, two ahead of McMurrayite MacKenzie Bruce and her 16. Risselada also collected a team-leading 17 digs in the contest, two ahead of teammate Ashley Krause. Risselada added five blocks as part of her impressive performance. 

On the Huskies' side of the ball, Megan Polant had 14 kills to edge out teammate Karlene Kaminski by one kill for the team lead. Raisa Stokes led her side with 22 digs, ahead of 15 from Polant and 14 from Hannah Shelemey. 

The two sides will face each other in a rematch Saturday afternoon at the Syncrude Sport & Wellness Centre. First serve is scheduled for 1pm with the action available on ACAC TV and Telus Optik 1998.
