SCARY INJURY ENDS GAME EARLY

LAC LA BICHE – Normally when the score is 13-0, one team is happy and one team is well…not so much. Either way, though, there's some noise in the stands and noise on the field. Saturday afternoon at the Bold Center Soccer Field, you could hear a pin drop. That's because Concordia University of Edmonton  striker Makkayla Agar suffered a serious lower body injury in the 85th minute and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance. The game was called shortly thereafter. Fans, coaches, teammates, opponents, all united in hope and prayer that the talented Thunder player, who notched two goals and three assists in the second half alone against the Portage College Voyageurs, would be alright. As of this writing, her status is unknown although initial reports sounded at least a little bit encouraging.

For the Voyageurs, the sight of an injured player was an all too familiar one. With their starting goalie out and several other talented players missing, the squad was barely able to dress a full 11-person lineup – and it showed. After an impressive first half, in which they battled the league leaders and only allowed four goals, the second half was a different story. They simply ran out of gas.

"I think it was a well-played game," said Head Coach Allan Robertson after the match, noting that his players put up a much better showing against Concordia than the first time they played the Thunder earlier this fall. "The girls went out there and did the things they need to do. They were plagued by a shortage of players and were worn out by the end of the game…Between a short bench and our main goalie being out, we suffered by that."

Despite the season-ending decisive loss, Robertson was happy with his players' effort and commended them for persevering through a challenging season.

"The girls played hard," he said. "They've come a long way since the beginning of the season and we're happy with everything they've done. They've made us proud as coaches."
