SAIT defeats LETH

Calgary, October 15, 2023 – Lethbridge 0 at SAIT 1

The SAIT Trojans women's soccer team rode a first minute goal to a 1-0 win over Lethbridge on Sunday, getting revenge for their only loss of the season and improving their record to 10-1 on the year. With their first loss, the Lethbridge Kodiaks record is now 9-1.

#19 Rachelle O'Leary opened the scoring just 40 seconds in, burying one after a scramble in the Kodiaks box. The goal would end up being the only one of the game, as SAIT goalkeeper #1 Erin Mergen stopped all 5 shots she faced leading SAIT to another shutout, the Trojans 8th of the season and 4th in a row.

It was clear that SAIT wanted payback after their only loss of the season came to Lethbridge on September 30th. After scoring so early, the Trojans played great defense, not letting the Kodiaks take control of the game or get many scoring chances.

Lethbridge got their best opportunity to tie in the 84th minute, being awarded a penalty after a SAIT foul in the box, butcouldn't convert after the shot hit the crossbar. SAIT cleared, and that would be the last good chance for the Kodiaks. The Trojans made sure to keep the ball in Lethbridge's end the rest of the way, and came out with the 1-0 win.

The Trojans will look to finish the year 10-1 with their final regular season coming up this Saturday at Medicine Hat College. In their last meeting, SAIT beat MHC 2-0 and outshot the Rattlers 23-6.
